THE TOP 5 PITFALLS OF NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS + HOW TO AVOID THEM (POSTED ON DECEMBER 26, 2018)

  1. Not drinking enough water. Staying hydrated is an important factor when it comes to your health and fitness. Try this: tracking your water intake with an insulated water bottle that you fill up 2-3 times a day OR a gallon water jug that you make sure to finish each day before bed

  2. Not having a goal for your fitness. Simply saying “I want to lose weight” won’t help you to identify the steps you need to take because the goal is too general. Try this:  Setting more specific goals like a specific numerical loss or physique. This will help identify what areas to focus on.

  3. Being TOO unrealistic with your goals. We aren’t saying to lower your bar, but set goals that are achievable. For example: “I’m going to go to the gym 2x a day!” Or “I’m never eating x food again.” Often times, we set goals that are too lofty and if we fail to hit them, we simply stop trying. Try this: starting with smaller goals and when you consistently hit them, THEN raise the bar.

  4. Focusing ONLY on nutrition OR physical activity. Both are extremely important when it comes to really succeeding in your fitness goals. If you go to the gym every day, but eat like trash and exceed your caloric expenditure, you won’t get the results you are working so hard for. On the other hand, focusing solely on your nutrition won’t get you there either (although changing your diet is often the easiest way to start seeing results). Try this: tracking your macros in accordance with your goals and level of physical activity. If you are very active, your macro needs are different than your macro needs if you have a low level of physical activity.

  5. Not having a REAL plan. The number one reason fitness resolutions fail is the lack of planning, setting realistic goals, and not factoring in that “life happens”.
